Unlocking a T-Mobile MDA Compact (HTC Magician) for Free

I've just got a new phone, a T-Mobile Vario II on a contract renewal, so my old MDA Compact is now spare. I tend to network unlock my old phone then keep it as a spare.

Here's how I unlocked my MDA Compact:

  1. Download xdadev_all_unlock from xda-developers.com
  2. Copy the file to the phone using Activesync
  3. Find the file with File Explorer.
  4. Run it, and wait a bit.

This just worked for me from a brief test with my Vodafone PAYG spare SIM, but the usual disclaimers should apply - this process could break your phone, so only carry it out if you're willing to risk it.
